Not only will you know how to build one better but you will also know how to use one better. As Devotus said earlier, read the compleat distiller. This is probably the best source of information about the theory of distilling that I have seen. Don't get me wrong there are a lot of people on forums that can tell you some great information but sometimes it is not quite accurate. I would be more inclined to read information that has been published and sold to many people that agree with the content.
